The awards, co-sponsored by the WRMCA and the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Concrete Institute, will honor the outstanding concrete projects of 2000 in Wis. Award winners are determined based on a project's finished appearance, engineering design skills, construction techniques, and the usage of ready-mixed concrete.

PACON Corp. in Appleton, Wis., won the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association's 2000 Concrete Design Award in the Other Category and for the Northeastern Region. The project involved extensive use of roller compacted concrete (RCC) for the exterior pavement and structural support of the floor within the facility. More than 300,000 square feet was covered with RCC of various depths. Enhanced concrete mixes were utilized for the bonded concrete overlayment placed on the RCC to meet level and flatness requirements of the floor. In addition, the RCC surface was used for the casting surface for the tilt-up wall panels. Overall, 10,000 cubic yards of concrete were used.
